About these numbers
- Sources: St. Johns River Water Management District (46,690 records). Records were fetched October 25, 2026.
- What’s counted: wells with a reported depth whose use is household, irrigation, public supply or agricultural. Monitoring wells, injection wells, plugged wells and permits that were never drilled are left out. Methodology.
- Dates: the source layer for this area publishes no construction or permit date, so we can’t say how recent these wells are.
- Approximate locations: 16,155 of 46,690 records (35%) share their exact map point with at least four other records, so they’re probably placed at a section, subdivision or parcel-group center rather than at the well. That matters for “nearest well” distances, less for area figures like these.
- Not a guarantee: a record shows how deep one well was permitted or built. It doesn’t predict yield, water quality or what your well will need.
Questions
- How deep are wells in Volusia County?
- Household (domestic) wells in Volusia County have a median reported depth of 140 ft. The middle half are between 110 ft and 160 ft, based on 14,172 SJRWMD records.
- Will a new well at my property in Volusia County be this deep?
- Not necessarily. These are depths other wells were permitted or built to. Depth depends on the aquifer, water quality, use and local rules. A Florida-licensed water well contractor and your water management district can tell you what a new well at your property needs.
- Where does this data come from?
- From public well-construction records published by the St. Johns River Water Management District. Each well in the lookup links to its original agency record.
